10 Days Southern Circuit Safari: Ruaha, Nyerere and Mahale
Tour Overview
This existing Pori & Beyond package is retained as the flagship long-haul fly-in journey. Nyerere and Ruaha represent southern Tanzania, while Mahale is correctly described as a western Tanzania extension rather than part of the classic Southern Circuit. The package only works when aviation operating days align, so the final itinerary must be confirmed around the guest's dates.
Route: Nyerere -> Nyerere / Ruaha -> Ruaha -> Ruaha / Mahale -> Mahale
Travel Style: Premium cross-country fly-in
Best For: Experienced safari travellers wanting safari southern wildlife and western chimpanzee country
Website Publishing Notes
Publish this package as a tailor-made premium cross-country fly-in safari with the price shown as a planning 'From' benchmark. Named accommodation is a recommended working example and is only guaranteed after written confirmation. Driving times, air schedules, border procedures and wildlife sightings remain subject to real operating conditions.
Typical inclusions: safari vehicle and professional guide on road-safari sectors, accommodation and meals as stated, park/conservation fees included in the final quote, airport/airstrip transfers and domestic flights explicitly listed, plus drinking water during applicable safari sectors. Typical exclusions: international flights, visa/entry costs, insurance, tips, optional balloon/walking/marine activities, premium drinks and personal purchases.
KENYA & TANZANIA SAFARI
Cross-border packages require realistic immigration time and may involve a guide/vehicle handover. Namanga is the logical corridor for Amboseli/Arusha; Isebania/Sirari is commonly used for Mara/Serengeti combinations.

Itinerary
10 planned days
Day 1Fly to Nyerere National Park
Nyerere
Destination: Nyerere Take a scheduled or charter flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to the airstrip serving your confirmed Nyerere camp. Meet the lodge or safari guide and begin an afternoon wildlife activity after check-in. Flying is the most efficient way to protect safari time on a short southern itinerary. Exact airstrip, flight time and baggage allowance are confirmed once the accommodation is booked.
Night accommodation: Rufiji River Camp or Siwandu
Day 2Full Day in Nyerere National Park
Nyerere
Destination: Nyerere Explore Nyerere's mix of woodland, floodplains, lakes and river systems on a full game-drive day. The park's scale rewards patience and a flexible route, with opportunities for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, hyena and, with luck, African wild dog. Vehicle density is generally lower than on the northern circuit, creating a more remote safari rhythm. Wildlife remains natural and no species is guaranteed.
Night accommodation: Rufiji River Camp or Siwandu
Day 3Rufiji River Safari and Nyerere Wildlife
Nyerere
Destination: Nyerere Combine land-based wildlife viewing with a boat activity on the Rufiji River or connected waterways where the camp's operating program allows. From the water, the safari perspective changes to hippos, crocodiles, riverbank elephants and rich birdlife. Boat activities are subject to water levels, weather, park rules and the confirmed lodge program, so the final sequence is set close to travel.
Night accommodation: Rufiji River Camp or Siwandu
Day 4Fly from Nyerere to Ruaha
Nyerere
Destination: Nyerere / Ruaha Transfer to the Nyerere airstrip and take the scheduled or charter connection to Ruaha National Park. On arrival, meet the Ruaha guide and continue with an afternoon game drive if the flight schedule allows. The bush flight is important because the overland distance between these major southern parks is substantial and would consume too much of a short itinerary.
Night accommodation: Ruaha River Lodge or Jabali Ridge
Day 5Full Day in Ruaha National Park
Ruaha
Destination: Ruaha Spend the day exploring Ruaha's broad river valleys, baobab country, rocky hills and seasonal sand rivers. The park is known for elephants, buffalo, lion and a strong predator ecosystem, but its greatest strength is the feeling of space. The guide can move between riverine areas and drier interior habitats according to season and recent sightings.
Night accommodation: Ruaha River Lodge or Jabali Ridge
Day 6Full Day in Ruaha National Park
Day 7Fly from Ruaha toward Mahale
Ruaha
Destination: Ruaha / Mahale Leave Ruaha by air and connect toward western Tanzania for the Mahale extension. Because Mahale is remote, flight schedules and operating days dictate the exact routing and may require a connection. On arrival, continue by the lodge's arranged transfer, which may include a boat sector on Lake Tanganyika. This cross-country day is designed around aviation reality rather than fixed clock times.
Night accommodation: Mbali Mbali Mahale Lodge or Greystoke Mahale
Day 8Mahale Forest and Chimpanzee Experience
Mahale
Destination: Mahale Join the lodge and park team for a ranger-guided forest activity focused on the Mahale ecosystem and, when conditions allow, habituated chimpanzee groups. The location and length of the forest outing vary naturally, so the day must remain flexible. After the guided activity, return to the lakeshore for rest and views across Lake Tanganyika.
Night accommodation: Mbali Mbali Mahale Lodge or Greystoke Mahale
Day 9Mahale Mountains and Lake Tanganyika
Mahale
Destination: Mahale Keep a second Mahale day for another guided forest experience or a gentler lakeside program depending on conditions and the lodge schedule. This extra time is important in a remote destination where wildlife encounters cannot be timed precisely. Kayaking, boat outings or beach relaxation may be offered by the property subject to local conditions.
Night accommodation: Mbali Mbali Mahale Lodge or Greystoke Mahale
Day 10Depart Mahale
Mahale
Destination: Mahale Transfer from the lodge to the airstrip according to the confirmed flight operation, using the required boat or vehicle sector. Fly onward to the stated gateway. Because Mahale services may operate on limited days, the entire package should be sold only after the aviation pattern has been checked for the guest's dates.
Night accommodation: No overnight unless an extension is booked
